Evacuation Chair Course

The Evacuation Chair Course provides learners with knowledge in the safe use of an evacuation chair and forms an essential element of the evacuation policy and strategy.

All buildings above or below ground floor level where the upper or lower floors are accessible with the use of a staircase require evacuation devices placed on each escape stairwell. It is also important to assess the suitability of the evacuation chair that has been chosen based on the profile of the occupants that may be in the building. The higher the level of dependency of the occupants within the building will increase both the number of evacuation chairs and level of training required.

Safe evacuation depends on the skills and abilities of the staff involved in making evacuation happen. Onsite staff play a critical role in making sure that everyone can evacuate the building safely in the event of an emergency such as a fire.

It is important that staff are trained and prepared to carry out their functions and that enough trained staff are on-site at all times for the effective evacuation of people who may need assistance.

To ensure your safety when training on the ‘Evacuation Chair Course’ all our training chairs have a full-body support seat.

As the use of an evacuation chair is a skill it is essential that staff attending the ‘Evacuation Chair Course’ have an opportunity to practice and satisfy themselves and the instructor of their ability to operate an evacuation chair safely and effectively.
